Volunteer and Internship Project Fees
The project fees listed on this page are the most current and apply to all applicants. These are the official fees for Friends for Asia Projects.
- Friends for Asia is a professional organization operating since 2007 with over 2,500 successfully placed volunteers and interns across four countries in Asia.
- We require our participants spend a minimum of two weeks working in local volunteer projects and internships.
- Fees include orientation, accommodation, volunteer insurance and local staff who help ensure safety and provide 24-hour support.
Why We Require Fees for Volunteers and Interns
We have always been an independent organization with no connection to (or support from) any government or religious organization. As such, we require a project fee from our volunteers and interns to help cover the costs involved with providing proper support and arranging quality international volunteer projects. We work hard to keep our fees as low as possible and have some of the lowest volunteer and internship project fees offered throughout Asia.
What’s Included in the Volunteer Fee
- Comprehensive pre-departure information
- International Accident and Injury Insurance
- Visa support documents (if necessary)
- Project Coordination
- Airport pick-up
- Two-day pre-service Orientation (including a special dinner, cultural show and half-day city tour)
- Accommodation during orientation and throughout the entire project
- Breakfast (daily)
- Lunch (every work day)
- Twenty-four-hour emergency assistance and support
- Close-of-project documentation
Additional Project Fee Inclusions
The following additional benefits are provided for participants in the Chiang Mai Elephant Camp and Chiang Mai Orphanage projects:
- All transportation between Chiang Mai city and the project site
- All meals from Monday morning through Friday afternoon (with breakfast available on weekends)
- Use of a Thai mobile phone

All of our project fees are indicated in US dollars; however, we accept volunteers from any country of orign who possess the necessary qualifications for the project in which they would like to participate.

Volunteer Project Deposit Fee
A non-refundable deposit of $295 USD is required to book a volunteer position with any of our projects. The balance of the project fee is the entire project fee minus the deposit. This project balance fee is due one month before the project start date.
For example, if a volunteer wants to serve in a project with a total fee of $1,000 USD, starting on July 1, the volunteer would need to send $295 USD to book the project. The balance of $705 USD must be received no later than June 1. If the balance is not received by the due date, then the project placement will be lost and the deposit will not be refunded.
Volunteer in Two or More Projects
Combine Fees for a Discount
Volunteers have the option to work with more than one project during their time with Friends for Asia. In this situation, the base fee will correspond to the highest base fee of the projects they are working on. The fee for the time they spend volunteering at the second (less expensive) project will be calculated according to that project’s additional week fee.
For example, if a volunteer books two weeks in the Elephant Camp Project followed by another two weeks in the Teaching Monks Project, their entire fee would be the base fee for the Elephant Camp Project ($1,349 USD) two additional weeks’ fee for the Teaching Monks Project (at $119 USD per week) for a total of $1,587 USD ($1,349 USD + $119 USD + $119 USD). Note that this can be significant savings.
Volunteer and Internship Fee Payment
Friends for Asia’s online payment system is administered by PayPal to ensure secure online payments. You can access our online payment system and send a project fee payment by clicking on the PayPal icon on our Fees and Payments page. Money can be sent from a personal PayPal account or by most major credit or debit cards. Our official Paypal payment email is payment@friendsforasia.org.
