Volunteer in Thailand with Friends for Asia

Medical Internship – Bangkok

This is one of the most exciting internship opportunities that FFA offers in Thailand, and it’s unlike anything that could be arranged in the West. Medical interns in Western countries rarely get to travel abroad, let alone enjoy such a high level of access to doctors, facilities and patients. Apply for our Bangkok Medical Internship project, and your professional resume could end up in a class of its own.

Bangkok Medical Intern Program

Bangkok is one of the leading medical tourism destinations in the world — and that’s no accident. The best hospitals in this city are truly world-class, and they offer great value for money. Patients fly in from around the world for heart operations and other vascular surgery, and a host of other treatments in state-of-the-art surgical theatres and for pennies on the dollar.

But don’t let the discounts deceive you. This is some of the finest healthcare available in the world today. In fact, hundreds of thousands of international patients seek treatment in Bangkok each year, the majority with the support of their insurers.

Friends for Asia’s medical interns in Bangkok work a standard work-week, Monday to Friday usually from 8 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Interns are paired with Thai doctors and surgeons, and shadow them throughout the day. Doctors at our project site hospital are highly qualified, and many were trained in North America and Europe. Needless to say, they are exceptionally proficient in English.

Volunteer Tasks for Medical Interns

FFA has established a relationship with one of the leading teaching hospitals in Bangkok. This is where medical students from one of the top Bangkok universities go for training. With that in mind, the on-site doctors are accustomed to being shadowed and walking students through the steps of their treatment. Naturally your task as a medical intern will vary depending on the day as well as on the patients that the doctor you’re shadow is seeing.

Many of the medical interns who have signed up through Friends for Asia have been nothing short of delighted with the level of access they had to patient treatments. Suffice it to say, a pre-med student would never get to play such a primary role in healthcare provision in the US.

Benefits of a Medical Internship in Bangkok

Interning at a Bangkok hospital is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It’s an incredible way to add real-life experience and international exposure to your academic and professional resumes as well. It practically goes without saying that other students pursuing medical qualifications in the US are not going to have much (if any) firsthand hospital experience in their background.

Apply for a medical internship in Bangkok, and you’ll stand out as a uniquely qualified medical student. While your peers are still living in the world of theory, you’ll have a competitive edge due to the real-life observation you’ve already completed.
