Volunteer and Intern Project Fees
Friends for Asia is an organization not connected or supported by any government or religion. We are completely independent. For this reason, a fee is required to participate in our volunteer and intern projects. These fees go to support all areas of our organization, including staff salaries, rent, office expenses, internet advertising, utilities, insurance, the expenses for our vehicles, etc. Considering we
are a small volunteer organization, our interests lie in supporting organizations in Chiang Mai with offering them competent and hard working volunteers and interns. We keep our fees as low as possible, and have some of the lowest volunteer and intern project fees offered in Thailand.
Specific Volunteer Project Fees
All of our project fees are in US Dollars. Although we use US Dollars, we accept volunteers of any nationality that possess the necessary qualifications for the project of their participation.
The Orphanage Volunteer Project is special in that it is only available for the first two weeks of each month. The project fee for this all inclusive project is $895 US Dollars for the two weeks. If you would like to volunteer for longer, you may always volunteer in a second project for only the “additional weeks fee.”
Our English Education, Teaching Monks, Girl’s Home, International University for Monks and HIV Orphanage Volunteer Projects duration minimum is two weeks. The project fee for these projects is $695 for two weeks and $100 for each additional week. For example, the entire project fee for four weeks in the Children’s Home is $895.
The Trafficking Prevention Volunteer Project normally starts at a fee of $795 for two weeks, with additional weeks at $150/week.
The Elephant Camp Volunteer Project duration minimum is two weeks. The Elephant Camp Volunteer Project fee is $1295 for two weeks, with additional weeks at $300 per week.
The Medial Intern Project requires a project duration minimum of two weeks. The fee for this project is $995 for two weeks and $200 for each additional week.
The Magazine and Multi-Media Intern Project, along with the Gardening and Building Project and Caregiving Project at a Home for Single Mothers in Crisis require a four week minimum. The four week fee for the Single Mother’s Home Projects is $895, and $100 for additional weeks. The four week fee for the Magazine and Multi-Media Intern Project is $1295 and $200 for each additional week.
What’s Included in the Volunteer Fee
The project fee includes pre-departure information, visa letter (if necessary), airport pick up, accommodation during orientation and entire project duration (Click Here to view our Accommodation Page), 2-Day Pre-Service Orientation, breakfast every day, lunch every work day, cultural show and dinner, 24 hour emergency assistance and support, close of project documentation.
The Elephant Camp Volunteer Project Fee includes all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) while at the Elephant Camp Monday – Friday afternoon. It also includes transportation to and from the Camp weekly.
Volunteer Project Deposit Fee
A non-refundable $295 deposit fee is required to book a spot for an individual in any of our projects. The balance of the project fee is the entire project fee minus the deposit. This project balance fee is due one month before the project start date. For example, if a volunteer wants to serve in a project with a total fee of $1000, starting on the 1st of July, the volunteer would need to send a $295 to book the project. He or She would then send the balance of $705 by the 1st of June. If the balance is not received by the due date, then the project booking will be lost and the deposit is non-refundable.
Volunteer in Two or More Projects
The highest project fee, plus the additional week’s fee for the other project(s) will be calculated for individuals participating in multiple projects. For example, if a volunteer participates for two weeks in the Elephant Camp Project and two weeks in the Teaching Monks Project, their entire fee would be the full project fee for the Elephant Camp ($995) and the additional weeks fee for the Teaching Monks Project ($100/week) for a total fee of $1195.

Volunteer Stories
Katia Grant, New York, USA - Caregiving at Single Mother's Home, July, 2009"I had a great time volunteering at the Single Mother’s Home. The children were always so happy and excited to do basically anything with the volunteers. Walking into the daycare and having a bunch of children run up to you because they are so excited to see you is definitely a great feeling!
Dr.Sophia Hurd, California, USA - Medical Intern - December, 2009
"What an AMAZING experience! I did the medical internship and learned so much about Thai medicine and how Pediatrics is practiced in Thailand. The doctors were so welcoming and willing to share their medical knowledge. The diseases were interesting, the hospital was great, and Friends for Asia made this medical experience one of the smoothest I’ve ever gone on. I would recommend this program to anyone and everyone."
Ben Randall, California, USA - Teaching Monks February, 2010
"Teaching Monks for my short time was a good opportunity to look into the lifestyle of teaching, as it is something I plan on doing after I graduate from college. If teaching is not your profession, this is still a positive experience to do something out of the norm and something you can look back on later in life and appreciate the small difference you might have made in someone’s life."
